Give 67 minutes to change the world on Mandela Day

Share this:

Nelson Mandela gave 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of humanity. His birthday, 18 July, is celebrated as Mandela Day – a day where people can offer 67 minutes of their time to make a difference in the lives of others. Inspired by Mandela Day, three Elders recently visited grassroots organisations in London and hosted an event encouraging people to volunteer their time.

Nelson Mandela gave 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of humanity. Will you give 67 minutes of your time on Mandela Day to help build a better world?

In 2009 the United Nations declared 18 July, Nelson Mandela’s birthday, Nelson Mandela International Day, which is a call to action for people all around the world to make a difference in the places in which they live and work. It is the day that people across the globe band together to serve the communities around them and work towards a better tomorrow. Will you give 67 minutes of your time on Mandela Day to help build a better world?

To celebrate Mandela Day, Desmond Tutu and Mary Robinson spoke with young people from urban youth charity XLP and Jimmy Carter met a group of young adults being helped by Spear, a free course which helps young people kick-start their career and discussed the importance of volunteering at a public event.

What will you do on Nelson Mandela Day?
