"I have confidence in the wisdom and judgement of the people of Cyprus to shape their own future."

Desmond Tutu, Lakhdar Brahimi and Jimmy Carter visited Cyprus from 8-10 December 2009. During their visit the three Elders met with the Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias and the Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat. They also held a public meeting to discuss issues of trust and truth-seeking in divided societies.

Honesty is the best policy: the only viable solution in Cyprus is a two state solution.

Turkey wants to join the EU. It cannot until it has sorted 'The Cyprus Problem' out. Turkey needs to sort out compensation to all the Greeks whose land it stole during the invasion, and enable those whose land/house is still intact to be repatriated. This is only fair. Until this happens I don't think Turkey should be allowed to join the European Union.

Turkey will not make excessive concessions to join the EU. Turkish membership of the EU will benefit both sides. If the current EU members insist on charging a one-sided "price" of entry, so be it. We are not paying.
