The making of The Elders' documentary

During their visit to the divided island of Cyprus in December 2009, the Elders filmed a documentary about the dedicated Cypriots working to locate and identify the remains of the Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots who were killed in the 1960s and 1970s. These photographs tell the story behind the film.

Forgiving, not forgetting

During the filming of their documentary on the search for missing persons in Cyprus, Desmond Tutu exchanged his views on remembrance and reconciliation with his fellow Elders and the young Cypriots travelling with them. For Archbishop Tutu, forgiving the transgressions of those you once considered the enemy is to bring peace inside your own heart.

Elders meet Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders, October 2008

Three members of The Elders visited Cyprus to lend their support to the leaders of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities, and to commend Mr Demetris Christofias and Mr Mehmet Ali Talat for their efforts to reunify the island. The Elders urge the international community to embrace the fact that a lasting settlement is within reach, and to actively support the leaders and the peace process.
