As part of activities to highlight the crucial role of women in conflict mediation, The Elders are taking part in a specially convened gathering at Wilton Park from 5-7 October.

The three-day virtual panel is the start of a month of activity from The Elders to mark the twentieth anniversary of UN Resolution 1325, a landmark resolution that reaffirms the importance of women in all areas of peacebuilding and conflict resolution.

Graça Machel, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Lakhdar Brahimi and Ban Ki-moon will be attending the discussions, which will focus on strengthening the role of women mediators in the Arab world by hearing from these women themselves. The event will bring together experienced mediatiors, peacebuilders and officials to help bridge the gap between women in grassroots peace making and senior policy circles.

Along with the event, The Elders will be raising awareness of the incredible role women play in conflict mediation, drawing on their own experience and highlighting the perspectives of those working in mediation today.
