Highlights from #WalkTogether - continue Mandela's long walk to freedom

To celebrate 100 years since the birth of their founder, Nelson Mandela, The Elders launched a year long campaign: #WalkTogether - continue Mandela's long walk to freedom, in July 2017. #WalkTogether travelled around the world, building a movement of activists and supporters working towards Peace, Justice, Health and Equality, and culminated with a symbolic walk in Johannesburg on Mandela's centenary in July 2018.

In July 2017, The Elders and civil society partners launched #WalkTogether: a global campaign to spark hope in the world and to encourage communities to work together and bridge the global fault lines of division, hate and xenophobia.

Elders in Berlin: recognising German leadership on refugees

In September 2016, Kofi Annan, Martti Ahtisaari and Lakhdar Brahimi visited Germany to launch a new report on refugees and migration. They heard a range of perspectives on the country's response to the crisis, from Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal President Joachim Gauck and business leaders, to civil society groups, volunteers and refugees themselves.

Building momentum on global issues in New York

Last week, world leaders gathered in New York for the UN General Assembly. Four Elders travelled to the city to participate in the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals and host bilateral events on strengthening the UN.

Hearing the Russian perspective

Six Elders were in Moscow in late April to meet President Vladimir Putin and Russian officials to hear their approach to a variety of current geopolitical crises, in particular the situation in Ukraine.

The Elders who participated in the mission to Russia from to 27-29 April 2015 were Martti Ahtisaari, Kofi Annan, Lakhdar Brahimi, Gro Harlem Brundtland, Jimmy Carter and Ernesto Zedillo.

In pursuit of peace: The Elders’ visit to Israel and Palestine

Jimmy Carter and Gro Harlem Brundtland spent three days discussing the post-war political landscape with a host of experts, politicians and NGOs.

Gro Harlem Brundtland and Jimmy Carter visited Israel and Palestine from 30 April to 2 May 2015, the fourth Elders' trip to the region.

The goal of the visit was to highlight the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and support the two-state solution.
